History
Origins of the foundation
The origins of the Foundation date back to 1822 when H.A. Prince John Raus, I. Duke of Rausenbach and Mérida observed the need to create a family institution that managed everything related to the family as a whole.
Because of this need, a mainly family institution emerged, called "Order of the House of Rausenbach under the protection of St. Michael the Archangel" (St. Michael is the Patron Saint of this house) or simply Order of St. Michael of Rausenbach.
That entity at the time was aimed at all family members who descended from Alberto Raus of Halbwangen for being the founder of the existing branches of this house.
The objectives were, as they are today, the preservation of heritage and family history. Moreover, in its beginnings, the order pursued the purpose of financially and socially supporting the descendants of this lineage. To this end, the entity was provided with an economic fund.
In this sense, the current Foundation Ducal House of Rausenbach is the heir institution of the Order of San Miguel.
